UYD AQUIRES FULL MEMBERSHIP IN IUSY.

Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) is a Social Democratic Youth Organisation founded in 1995 on a firm anchor chain of values for Truth, Social Justice and Solidarity.

Since inception, UYD’s pro-active, pragmatic, innovative, solid, and committed membership and leadership has inspired Ugandans especially the youth and has rallied them for both national and international campaigns on issues of Human Rights and social responsibility.

UYD has largely managed to advance its objectives and this has enabled it acquire wide recognition especially through its strong links and partnerships with several Socialist and Social Democratic Organisations all over the world.

On the 26th of January 2008, UYD registered yet another landmark achievement at the XXVII IUSY World Congress held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic when the delegates approved the recommendations by the IUSY presidium to admit it as a full member of the International Union of Socialist Organisations (IUSY).

UYD’s strength is derived from its high commitment and conviction to the values of Social Justice and fairness for all, a compassionate society, a decent society, and a society based on a common duty of humanity where everyone owes an obligation to another to improve the lives of us all.

As a precursor to acquiring full membership in IUSY, UYD has been actively involved in most IUSY activities and it is currently one of the most active members of IUSY in Africa. Regionally and locally, it has helped in setting a pace in the fight for good governance, for poverty reduction, environmental protection, better trade policies, workers’ rights and a peaceful end to conflicts in the entire region.

“Friends that you meet on the journey, make you appreciate that journey,” UYD dearly cherishes the strides that it continues to make, with immeasurable solidarity from its partners and friends. We are very optimistic about what lies ahead in this great trek.

IUSY was founded in August 1907. It is an international movement of Socialist and Social Democratic organisations struggling for democratic socialism, freedom, human rights, equality, democracy and international solidarity. IUSY World Congress is held every two years.
